Where artistry and innovation share center stage

Opera

Dear Students, Faculty and the CMU Community,

Welcome to another exciting year of opera at CMU.  Each year we present at least two productions utilizing the 3rd and 4th year voice majors and the graduate voice students.  Our selection of repertory is intended to cover a wide range of styles, including tradition and contemporary opera, giving the students a broad range of experience.  In addition, we expose the students to guest directors and guest conductors, further giving them a variety of artistic endeavors.

There are always opportunities for the students to take their learning further by being involved in other aspects of the production including assistants to the creative team of directors, conductors and production team.  The School of Music works closely with the design students in the School of Drama and orchestra members from the CMU Philharmonic and the Contemporary Ensemble allowing artistry and innovation to take center stage.

Sincerely,

Professor Thomas W. Douglas
Director of Opera Studies
