The Matisse String Quartet

(L to R): Erica Richardson, violin; Marlene Ballena, cello;
Si Yu, viola; and Christopher Scherer, violin.

The Matisse String Quartet was founded earlier this year as the Carnegie Mellon Honors String Quartet. As cultural ambassadors, the Matisse Quartet represents the School of Music through a variety of performances opportunities throughout the year. Some of these opportunities include playing along side the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as part of their Children’s Concerts at Heinz Hall and traveling to Qatar this spring to take part in Carnegie Mellon Qatar’s 10th Anniversary celebration. The Quartet is also participating in the Banff School Quartet Program.

The Quartet is coached by faculty members David Harding and Noah Bendix-Balgley.
