Lisa Jura, a young Jewish girl in Vienna, dreamed of becoming a concert pianist. Her dreams were shattered in 1938 when German troops took over her homeland. Separated from her parents, Lisa was one of nearly 10,000 children brought to England before World War II as part of the Kindertransport.
Following sold-out theatrical runs in London, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, Grammy-nominated American concert pianist Mona Golabek, Lisa Jura’s daughter, comes to Carnegie Mellon University to perform The Children of Willesden Lane. During this same week, nearly 14,000 Pittsburgh school children will have experienced the Willesden Lane READ -- studying the book and seeing the show at the Byham Theatre or via a live Webcast.
This production, based on the best-selling book of the same name by Ms. Golabek and Lee Cohen, will inspire as it celebrates the triumph of the human spirit and the power of music to transcend the unimaginable.
*Q&A with Ms. Golabek will follow the performance.
