[ auditions ]All applicants are required to complete an audition. An applicant's candidacy for any School of Music program will only be considered if the audition requirement is met through one of three means. You will be prompted to select one of these three options when you reserve your audition date and time on-line
- Audition on the Carnegie Mellon campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Auditioning on-campus is highly preferable!
- Performance area studio faculty attend and adjudicate these live auditions
- Audition at one of the regional locations
- A regional audition is not an option for percussion, double bass, composition, and flute applicants
- Regional auditions are recorded. Performance area studio teachers adjudicate these recordings in Pittsburgh
- Audition by recording
- Only when you are unable to travel to campus or a regional location
- High quality DVD or CD recordings are the only acceptable medium
- Selections must be separated by tracks
- Disc and case must each have:
- Your name
- Instrument or voice
- Repertoire titles and composers
- The words "Audition Recording"
- Must be received in the School of Music Recruitment office by January 10
- Performance area studio teachers adjudicate these recordings
Live auditions for flute, voice, and conducting applicants will only be honored upon successful completion of the first phase (recorded) audition process.
